Are stereo amplifiers rated the same way?

Stereo manufacturers are bigger liars than politicians. Some times they use peak output power (milliseconds), sometimes they use power drawn from the wall, but often they just look at the competition's carton front and add 10%. However the truth is available: look at the boilerplate sticker, which has been evaluated by UL. This will give the maximum possible power drawn, so it tends to be higher than you will actually draw.

How is a microwave rated for wattage?

When you buy a microwave oven you want to know how intense the microwave field is, not how much the oven draws from the wall. So a microwave oven that boasts 600 watts on the box, will have an input requirement of 1200 watts on the boilerplate in the back. Don't be fooled!

Why do I hear buzzing on my stereo when using a modified sine wave inverter?

Some inexpensive stereos use power supplies that cannot eliminate common-mode noise. These would require a sine wave inverter to operate noise-free. What you hear is some of the higher harmonics of the modified sine wave.

Can I use a modified sine wave inverter for my medical equipment?

For Medical equipment, oxygen generators, etc. talk to the manufacturer of the equipment. Pooxtra inverters are never tested or rated with medical equipment, and we don't guarantee that they will work to save your life. But we do have customers who buy our products and use it for some medical equipment such as CPAPs . 

Why can the 1500 Watt inverter not run my 1200 Watt microwave?

The power commonly advertised for microwave ovens are the cooking power (the power delivered to the food) not the power actually consumed by microwave oven. The microwave ovens might consume 40% to 100% more than its advertised cooking power. The recommended inverter to run 1200 Watt microwave is 2500 Watt or larger.

Can I use my computer with an inverter?

Yes, computers and laptops can be used with Pooxtra inverter. Our basic inverters provide modified sine wave power for equipment. For the highest level of clean power for sensitive electronics, use our sine wave inverter models.

We like to go camping and travel quite frequently. My spouse uses a CPAP machine, will your models work?

Yes, many of our customers use their inverter for that very reason. We do recommend a pure sine wave inverter though. CPAPs that use a humidifier should always use a pure sine wave inverter.

Is it possible to run an air conditioner on an inverter ?

Yes, it is possible to operate a small air conditioner in the 5000-9000 BTU range using a higher-powered inverter and battery bank with the right capacity for power. Select an inverter and battery combination that takes into account the startup surge required by the air conditioner.

Television and Audio Suggestions

Although all our inverters are shielded and filtered to minimize signal interference, some interference with your television picture may be unavoidable, especially with weak signals. 

Here are some suggestions that may improve reception: 

1. First make sure that the television antenna produces a clear signal under normal operating conditions (i.e., at home plugged into a standard 110AC wall outlet). Also insure that the antenna cable is properly shielded and of good quality. 

2. Change positions of the inverter, antenna cables and television power cord. 

3. Isolate the television, its power cord and antenna cables from the 12 volt power source by running an extension cord from the inverter to the TV set. Insure that any excess AC power cord is a distance away from the TV set. 

4. Coil the television power cord and the input cables running from the 12 volt power source to the inverter. 

5. Attach a "Ferrite Data Line Filter" to the television power cord. More than one filter may be required. These are available at electronic supply stores including Radio Shack (Radio Shack Part No. 273-105) 

NOTE: Some inexpensive audio systems may discharge a slight "buzzing" sound when operated with an inverter. This is caused by deficient filters in the audio system. The only solution to this problem is using a sound system with a higher quality power supply.

Operating a Laser Printer with a Power Inverter

A laser printer generally requires a pure sine wave inverter capable of surging at least 6.5 times the maximum wattage rating of the printer. For instance, a laser printer rated at 500 watts requires an inverter with a surge rating of at least 3,250 watts.An inkjet printer does not maintain the same requirements as a laser printer. Inkjet printers can be operated normally with a modified sine wave inverter rated to handle the printers wattage requirement.

Operating a Microwave with a Power Inverter

The power rating used with microwave ovens is the "cooking power" which refers to the power being "delivered" to the food being cooked. The actual operating power requirement rating is higher than the cooking power rating (for example, a microwave with "advertised" rating of 600 watts usually corresponds to almost 1100 watts of power consumption). The actual power consumption is usually stated on the back of the microwave. If the operating power requirement cannot be found on the back of the microwave, check the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer.

Operating a Photographic Strobe with a Power Inverter

A photographic strobe or flash generally requires a pure sine wave inverter capable of surging to at least 4 times the Watt Sec rating of the strobe. For instance, a strobe rated at 300 watts requires an inverter capable of surging to 1200 watts or more.

Can we connect a fridge a tv and fan and the same time for your 1000Watt Pure Sine Inverter?

Yes, you can connect them at the same time as long as the total rating wattage is less than 1000W. We suggest the total loads wattage no more than 800W in order to prolong the inverter lifespan.

What's the difference between startup and continuous load?

Many appliances and electronics draw a lot more power on startup than they do during continuous use. Because inverters must be able to handle these "peak surge" requirements, the startup power requirement must be considered when sizing your inverter.

What's the difference between inductive and resistive load?

A resistive load does not require extra power upon startup, whereas an inductive load experiences an inrush current upon startup and requires more power during the first few seconds/cycles of startup.
